Day 105

Woke to something odd this morning…there is a bright object coming in the windows, so when I looked out there was more oddities…lots of blue wet stuff below and ….yes I’m being silly…the sun was bright and the fog was gone.  Being able to wake to this beautiful site in the mornings is so fabulous.

Beautiful isn't it!
Breakfast… Blueberry pancakes,  using those delicious blueberries that Anne had so graciously given me yesterday….handpicked blueberries…Thinking about one of my wonderful doctors back home…in the nurses lounge he would fix himself a healthy breakfast/snack of blueberries, oatmeal and yogurt…Morning Dr. Tom Purgett!

View from our window
It was alittle before 9 and I could hear voices…Bandit hadn’t moved from the front porch, looked around and couldn’t find anyone, then we finally spotted a couple, They have been sailing for a year and they are from Brazil….WOW!  They loved the island.
Couple from Brazil
A gentleman Buz, who brought his daughter and her family…he’s a charter member of F.O.S.I.L., and his daughter was first on the island 40 yrs ago…before she was born, her mother was expecting her.  The kids loved Bandit, and I think he felt mutual.

Kids loving on Bandit
A young man came up today, he’s eleven years older than me…he said that we probably met back when I was a toddler here on Seguin…he said they visited several time during my stay, pretty neat.
Visitors enjoying the shade and lunch
Had lots of new folks out today, which means I get to share ALL of Seguin’s information.  I did find out that schools here in Maine don’t start till next Tuesday or Wednesday…so people are still out with their kids vacationing before the kids start back to school.  Another older gentleman, John Veasey, told me some wonderful stories, he told me he had come to Seguin in 1949…he told me about the submarine Squalis, which sank in 1939 off the shore of Isle of Sholes (sp?).
The young lady on the far right was the one who came before she was born

Saw that Ken had brought out the “Keepers” board…Larry and my name.  It hangs in the Gift Shop…..I’m proud to have been a part of Seguin this summer. Daddy’s name is going to be put up next week and my name is now up on the wall…yes my eyes are wet.

Surprise….Ethan made a second trip, must be making up for Tuesday when he didn’t get to come because of the weather.  I was up in the tower with some visitors, so I stayed up there to continue giving the tower tours with this next group.   One gentleman came just to see the Fresnel Lens.  He was very fascinated with ours and loved seeing it!   Another lady was very scared of heights, but she wanted to go out on the catwalk so much…I told her my fears of heights and told her how I hold on to the rail, etc…she came out and was so impressed with the sight from the tower…she was so glad she had come up.

Knew since Ethan and Brook had come out again that they were probably hungry…I made them a ham and cheese sandwich with fresh lettuce from my garden and grabbed a bag of chips, some cookies in a ziplock and had a jug of sweet tea….I hurried down the ramp as soon as I finished the tower tours and Brook came back to shore with Pepper, Ethan’s puppy.  Pepper had some energy to release and had a blast on shore with Bandit.  Brook took the food back to the boat…Hope they enjoyed it!  Now I need to get back up and fix Larry some lunch…it’s 5:30, guess I could call it dinner and be finished with cooking.

Sunset was nice, not the best I’ve seen, but it was a good ending to the day…then I turned around and the moon was out, it wasn’t very big, but it was full…I walked around the house trying to get the best photo of it…hope you like it.

Texas flag flying over Seguin...yes it's the clothes line and a napkin...but it's TEXAS....see the full moon
See the full moon to the left?

At 4:45 it was 68 degrees w/5 mph winds
Day 104

Today was our go ashore day!
We just got back.....Tired…..dog tired!

Thank you so much to my WW….Dot Young got to join them today, no time for us to visit, she’s getting out of the boat as I’m getting in…one of those “hi/bye” moments.  Cyndy had to go, wish she could have stayed a couple of more days, but we had a great time.

Ken Young had gotten the label for my daddy to add to the “keepers” board…I cried…I’m going to have my momma put it on the board, while me and my siblings watch.  Thank You Ken!

It has been a foggy day, which I think makes this about the seventh day in a row…the thing with the weather here in Maine…it’s kind of like Texas weather….wait a minute and it will change….it’s foggy one moment and you think you are socked in, then slowly it clears and you can see…but wait…what you see is another fog bank coming at you with more fog.
Told you it was foggy

My island is somewhere over there...coming into the cove
Had a great day today, except I didn’t “check” the washer when I started it at the Laundromat…. I did everything and pushed start then we left to run to the office…came back to throw our two loads in the dryer…and mine was still sitting there…dang it.  The lid hadn’t closed as well as it wanted.  No big deal, we had time…got to watch a little TV while we waited for it to wash.  We were going to run to eat breakfast while the clothes dried…a lady that was also doing her laundry told us about a place we hadn’t been…Starlight CafĂ© in Bath….It was good….almost couldn’t find it…it’s one of those hidden places..we will be back!

Went to the office to hand in my sales, visitors log, etc…  Catherine has been on vacation and looked fabulous!!!  Anne was also there and she had a package for me…
Does anyone know what time it is...I do!
She said it was some clocks for the dwelling “YEAH”…and Blueberries, and they are fabulous, thinking about all my jealous friends back home!!  Later I found a bottle of Maine Maple Syrup also….Thank You Anne!!
Loving me some blueberries....thinking pancakes in the morning!!

Got the laundry done, pharmacy scripts filled, then off to Topsham to pick up a new wagon for the island…on sale! Then to Brunswick for groceries…But first I had Larry drop me off so I could get my nails done…this is a rare thing to have a manicure…but my nails have grown and I needed something to help them stay that way.  Larry proceeded to Walmart to do the grocery shopping.

We finished early, so I called Ethan and let him know about what time we could be at the dock…stopped at Spinneys and split a hamburger and onion ring basket.
Finished just in time, caught the boat…fog was coming in thick…the ride was bumpy, and I liked it!
Fog and rough water while heading back to the island

Two gentlemen came on shore as we got here and they helped us up with our supplies!  A God sent!  I fixed them a glass of Sweet Texas Tea!
Good times with visitors...repeat visitors I might add!

Larry sat out talking with them, they have been here before, they were talking about having sailed to from Portland to Bermuda and had great weather….mentioned something about a possible hurricane, but all was good.  They proceeded to go take a hike on the North Trail.  They have a sailboat in the cove and are going to spend the night there and head to Monhegan tomorrow morning.  Thank YOU for helping us.

Today was a THANK YOU kind of day…all these wonderful people doing wonderful things!

Day 103

Gooood Morning!
Woke to fog again, been this way for the last 4 days….was told we have a cold front coming…not sure what that means up here in Maine, but when I do find out, I will let ya’ll know.  Around 10:00 we were able to see the ocean and by 10:30 we could see all the way out, even though it was still alittle hazy.  Saw one small sailboat headed this way.

Larry’s feeling better and hope he continues, thank goodness Cyndy is here to help, I could do it myself, and he would help, but this way he gets to recoup and get better sooner.  She hung the flag for us today!

Breakfast this morning was kind of hodgepodge of sorts….Larry didn’t want anything but coffee, I had the last bite of pimento cheese and made a sandwich and Cyndy grabbed a piece of the blueberry pie she brought yesterday, didn’t even warm it!

This weather is giving us the “lazy” day attitude.  Its dark, its wet, its gloomyish, I’m thinking it’s a good day for afternoon nap…..and it’s not even 11 yet.  Cyndy suggested that we could bake….that’s a good idea…after the nap!

Ethan’s bunch should be here about 11:30, so going to make sure the museum is READY!

Plans today are to work on the Kiosk…putting info on the other side and putting that same info in the restroom.  Then we are going to cut the wood for the corner of the well house, won’t be able to paint until it dries up a little more.

Ethan’s group didn’t show, so I’m guessing people are back at work since a lot of kids started back to school today….I only know this because my grandbabies started back today.

So we went swimming, suits were optional, that’s all I will say about that!  Afterwards I saw my first baby seal swimming in the cove, he was so close to shore, but I guess we scared him.

Lunch…Chicken Noodle Soup and crackers.

Cyndy and I picked up the shingles from under the tram….hung info in the restroom and the kiosk.  I also worked on the area around the kiosk…a lobster cage and some lobster buoys were just chunked up there….I kinda made it pretty.   We burnt all the wood in the burn bucket from the Whistle House and paper down on the sand in the cove. While we were watching the fire, a sailboat came into the cove so Cyndy came up with the couple to give them tours.  I stayed to watch the fire…and find sea glass.  Cyndy came back a while later and the couple were going to take a few trails before they came back and spent the night in the cove.  We finished burning and stayed till the tide came up and we were sure all the ashes were gone.  While she was gone, the fog started coming in, having seen the movie “The Fog”, this moment in time could have been a little scary.  The fog lifted as quickly as it came.

Bandit found him a sea gull who he felt needed to be chased!  Bandit gets so excited when he knows we are headed to the cove… he romps and runs on the sand…he’s gotten good at knowing the waves.  I hate leaving him on Wednesdays, he loves to go with us to town.

Its 5:00 and its getting dark and I’m tired…Cyndy can wear you out.  Showers and time to plan dinner….thinking about fixin breakfast for dinner!

Look visitors dingy has wheels....I want wheels for my dingy!!

We never got to cutting the wood for the pump house….will leave it on the list!

Cyndy’s going to go blackberry hunting in the morning after she gets me off the island.

Time to make our list and start getting things ready to go to shore tomorrow morning.

Cyndy fixed dinner….Breakfast Burritos and Blueberry Pie!

Card game and then time for bed…Ethan arrives EARLY in the morning!
