66 degrees w/ 6 mph winds (not liking this combo of numbers)
Day 93
I’ve tried not to think too much of when we
leave Seguin, but I found myself doing all the “things” in my head, that I will
be doing….this morning as I woke. Pack
this, leave that, fix this, make sure to tell them that….dang it!
Found the ladies out on the front lawn enjoying
their breakfast and time here on the island.
There was one piece of Blueberry Pie left from
last night…thinking it would make a lovely breakfast!
9 am….the “Lovely Ladies of Yacht Club-L.L.S.Y.C.” were up early for the
sunrise, have already gone on the North Trail, had breakfast, stripped their
beds, gathered their supplies and are now headed out on the South Trail and
they took two clippers to “clip” vines along the trail…Impressed!
Headed back to the real world |
They came back saying that they saw green
blackberries and a eagle while walking the trail.
Two other couples who had been here last week
brought other visitors to see the island…repeat customers…yeah! Three men with about 10 young adults came
up. It was good to talk to the older
gentleman and share my history. He
seemed impressed, which always makes me feel good. The number one question that people ask
is…”So ya’ll were here year round?”…..I say yes and then the next question is…
“how did your mother deal with the winters out here on this island?”. I need to find out that answer since I don’t
know!
Had three couples who are "hosting" a total of four exchange students and one interpreter. They are here through a connection of a shipwreck that happened in Japan about one hundred years ago. The Japanese people were kind and rescued passengers and built fires to warm them, etc... This exchange is done for one week. Each boy, age 15 were bought a t-shirt by the host families. I gave a tour with the help of the interpreter.

Teenager....in any language! |
My plans today are to sand, stain and varnish
the little chest of drawers in my kitchen.
It holds the silverware, baggies/foil, and kitchen towels…plus we have
our water and coffee pot on top.
Ham and Cheese sandwiches for lunch…we added
some of the arugula salad from what the ladies brought last night…goooooood!
5:00 looks like a storm is coming in from the west
heading kinda south. It doesn’t look
bad, but we can hear the thunder and see the dark cloud headed this way. Took the flags down and brought the chest of
drawer inside. Don’t think we will see
anyone else today. Its still the same
temp and wind speed as this morning. The
wind has been refreshing. Folks said the
waters were a little choppy.
My aunt and uncle, my dad’s brother, will be out
here next Friday. He was still in middle
school when dad was serving out here.
His wife’s brother lives here in Durham so they are going to be visiting
both. My Mom and other siblings and
their other halfs will be visiting toward the end of August and then my cousin
and her husband will be visiting us the first week in Sept. They have all listened to the stories Mom and
Dad told, then what I’ve told, now they get to experience this wonderful
place. A few more Texans up here!!
The chest of drawers did get sanded and
stained…since the rain is coming, we have to wait to varnish it tomorrow…probably
two coats. I think I will try to see
about putting the microwave on it….we’ll see what works the best.
6:30…the rain has started, but it’s just a
sprinkle right now…would love a good storm to sleep through!
Dinner….leftover Chicken Taco Soup!
