Day 80
Wow 80 days, I feel like I’ve only been here a
week.
80 days of sunrises, of sunsets! Time flies!
Last night’s moon was as lovely as the nights
before, and I finally found a “better” way to take its photo…still not the
best, but it’s ok.
Last Nights Moon |
The view from our bathroom is the best in the
house…I understand the crow’s nest view so much better. So I spent about an hour looking out that
window and trying to catch the moon.
Enjoy!
I was a little tired this morning…chasing the
moon I guess. Blueberry Pancakes and a
cup of Coffee on the porch was all I needed to start my day.
We have a pattern for our days, but they always
are changed up by the fact we always have different people visiting. They are the ones who keep this place alive;
they come to see the beauty of standing high above the shores of Maine. Then they start taking in the 360 degrees of
ocean views.
That rock in my front yard |
Love that dad is trying to get a photo of the kids on the ground |
Ascending up to the top of
the tower and going through the door to the catwalk, taking that “step” out on
the catwalk, almost everyone takes a big breath as they stand to their feet. The sounds of just the breaths, the almost
gasp of people is enough to know what they are thinking.
And the kids having a blast while he takes the photo! |
As they walk through the museum asking questions
like, “you mean people lived here year round?” and “you lived here?”. Seeing
the photo’s from the 1800’s, the way the families lived and dressed, the
buildings that stood and are gone and the building that are still standing
strong and proud. Almost all ask how we
feel being able to be here….we smile and take a breath and then usually with
one word, we let them know…wonderful or fabulous or breathtaking, Blessed!
Visitors taking photos of memories...this is the oil house-pre 1960/paint locker-1960 era |
I hope that these two Texans can put a little
part of Seguin in each visitor’s heart.
They might not ever get to come back, they might not ever give a dollar
to help, but maybe when something is said about a lighthouse in Maine…Seguin
comes to mind and they smile. Knowing they
have been here, they have seen and heard the history.
The visitors have been very with their
donations. I got two memberships today,
that’s a first for me….new members of our Seguin family.
Our backdoor to my kitchen |
One set of visitors live just across the water
in Georgetown. They showed us their
house and they also knew several of those who have been keepers. Another couple are going to be staying in the
cove tonight and came back to do the North Trail and to also see the sunset
from up here.
Larry giving the tower tour |
One visitor couldn’t get her phone to take any
photos….we can’t have that…so I brought her in to our side and we were able to
plug it in and get her just enough power to take the photos!
Sumac pod...beautiful maroon |
Today I had a few moments between visitors to
try to imagine my dad running around this rock…and back then it was a rock…no
grass, only a few trees in the cove. I
tried to think what his duties would have been, of him coming in to check on momma and
me, coming in for lunch and dinner and then the card games at night between the
three couples who called this island home. I
also was wondering why he went back to Texas when he was finished….it was for Momma
and me. He took us back home to be close
to family. He really didn’t have
anything back there to pull him back…so ‘Thanks Dad” for bringing us out here
to Seguin and for carrying us back to Texas.
Our family is extremely close!
Not sure...just loved the different colors of all the berries in the photo...about six colors |
It never got really hot today, but I did open
windows in the gift shop and museum to let the breeze through…Maine air-conditioning…open
the windows..it’s wonderful!
Don't know...just a beautiful tree with all these berries on it...birds don't eat them...so we don't eat them...that's what my daddy said! |
The LORD is my light and my salvation; whom
shall I fear?
The LORD is the strength of my life; of whom
shall I be afraid?
