Not sure about temp and winds
Day 97

Yesterday was our go ashore day, so I didn’t blog anything when we got home.  It totally wears us out getting our supplies from the dingy, up the stairs and then up the hill.  I sometime wonder if our marriage will survive bringing items up the hill.

We had three WW arrive, Ken, Tom and Vicky came on the island yesterday morning and they needed to get off the island earlier than normal, so we choose a 2 pm meet time with Ethan.  We normally have two to three more hours, so we rushed.
Same list that we started with…
Meet Ethan at 7 at the cove
Cyndy’s house….. to drop off our trash, guest linens to be washed, pick up last weeks guest linen that was washed, and fill up our 5 water jugs.  Cyndy won’t be coming to the island today, she is filling in for Catherine at the office.  She said I had a package, she left and came back with a box of “Fruit Loops” and a package of shoe strings, wrapped with a “Happy Birthday” ribbon.

This was one of most treasured birthday gifts…. I had told her the story of when momma would be getting ready to go ashore for groceries, etc…  She would take a shoe string and give me a bowl of Fruit Loops to “string”.  She would then tie it and I would wear it on our “trip” ashore.  It taught me a lesson coordinating my fingers as well as it was a snack during our out and about day.  THANK YOU Cyndy!!!
Laundry….start it washing
Then to breakfast at Southgate Café
Laundry…start it drying
Office…drop off Ken’s camera, visitors sign-in sheets, and gift shop sale info, and pick up toilet tissue for the cove potty, met a young man who is interning at the office.  He just came back from Japan.  He was part of the exchange program….remember the four young people earlier this week from Japan.  I wish I had made a copy of their signatures in the guest book, very interesting.
Rodgers Ace…looked for a wagon to replace the islands wagon that broke yesterday
Lowes….looking to see if they had a wagon
Walmart….grocery’s, etc….
Pedi vs lunch….Pedicure won, we both needed it badly! So no lunch!

Was on time at the dock and out to the island…there was still a layer of haze on the water, and Seguin was still able to be seen, but it was hazy as well.

Four boats in the cove when we arrived.  We transferred our items from Ethan’s boat to our dingy and then to shore…high tide, so getting things out of the dingy can be difficult…the waves keep trying to “take” the dingy out…but at the same time it “pushes” it up a little more.
Visitors enjoying the cove as they came ashore

There were four boats in the cove when we arrived and most of them were already on the island, I did help a lady and her granddaughter out of their inflatable kyake.  We told them it would be a little while.  Ken suggested some trails to go on while they waited on us to get up the hill.  The WW said that they enjoyed the Banana Bread, but didn’t eat it all.  They said they didn’t have many visitors, but Vicky said she sold a lot!

Remember I told you our little wagon died…well we are dragging it by the back wheels only.  We left some items down in the Donkey House, will get them later this week.  Left the water jugs at the bottom.  Larry is going to see if there are a couple of strong young men that might bring a couple up the trail for us!!

So…..before we ever started up the hill….I went to the front of the wagon, made him put the handle down and I kissed him…one of those special kisses….He told me he loved me….now that I had his attention I said, “I love you, BUT will you still love me when we get to the top of this hill?”.  He started laughing and said, “yes, but I might not like you very much”.  Wednesdays are difficult!!

Finally made it to the top and found three people wondering around our side…it startled me.  Everything was ok, I think, they just didn’t realize that this was our living quarters.  They didn’t go into the museum but headed down the trail, back to their boat.  I think Bandit gave them a guided tour of our place.

Put everything away, apologized to Bandit who is dealing with abandonment issues…not really he just wants me to sit down so he can get in my lap and hold me down.

Leftover Spaghetti and garlic toast for dinner…then some Bengay.   Larry’s knee had its moments of being ok and other moments of pain…he thinks he can wait till we get back to Texas and have Dr. Moffett look at it, not sure he can.

Went out and did some star gazing from the NE side of the house and wanted to see the tower light from there…the fog is running through the beams.

Bed time!

Day 98

Yes, Thank You God for the cool weather!

Fog horn has been going off all night and it when the sun came out….we are socked in.  I can see the tram, but not easily.

View from our side of the front porch
Coffee…yes!  I like mine with a little creamer and I was out for the past couple of days.  Not going out on the porch this morning..the fog has everything wet.

View from the front porch...museum side...foggy
Breakfast…leftovers…had two Blueberry Pancakes that we made from the other day…usually I have one as a snack or lunch later that day, but didn’t…heated them up and Larry wanted crunchy peanut butter and syrup on his.  Mine….whipping cream (left by our Lovely Ladies the other night), blueberry’s and pecans.

Blueberry Pancakes...yes please!
Now to the tower and dust the light!  This was one of my daddy’s jobs when he was a young 23 yr old…husband, father and USCG Boasmans Mate III class.  One of my most favorite things out here is in the tower, the door at the top leading to the catwalk.  It curves just like the tower, the old hardware….the stories it could tell…LOVE IT.  I finished the outside of it, will do the inside tomorrow…that 1000 watt bulb and the sun make it an incubator….maybe I might lose a ounce or two if I stay in there sweating!!!  Have a few moments to sweep before the guest get up the hill.

Didn’t think Ethan would be able to make it this morning, but when I text him he said he would.

Larry’s going to take his time getting down the hill and be there for Ethan’s group.  He always “tried” to be there when visitors arrived, but that knee didn’t allow this last week.

Getting ready for overnight guest for Saturday night.  Ethan will be bringing them out and he is not sure if they get to make it on Sat…weather may dictate if they get to come or not.  My Aunt and Uncle are coming out tomorrow….weather permitting!  Praying all goes well!

Foggy Seguin Light Station
Larry just told me about a family from earlier this week.  They had planned a day at the Popham Beach Park.  Officers were not letting anyone else in and there was no place to park.  Discouraged about their plans falling apart, they decided to drive on to Fort Popham.  As they were parking, Ethan asked them if they wouldn’t mind letting one of his customers park there and then they could park behind them.  He explained that this would allow both to park, since his people would be gone a few hours.  The discouraged family asked a few more questions about why they would be gone…next thing you know they are on Ethan’s boat headed to Seguin.  He was so thrilled to come out here.  They loved it.  So the day that they thought was a bust ended up being one of the best!

Had about 23 folks come with Ethan.  Several gentleman carried water containers up…bless them!!  Even though it was foggy…they still enjoyed themselves.

Visitors, two sisters, one of their husbands in the background

Precious family visiting...mom is carrying the little one
Jeff and Catherine Jacobs have been out on their boat and stopped by to see us before going home.   We had a wonderful visit.  Usually we just see each other in passing.  Jeff coming off the boat as we are getting on, he’s one of our WW and Catherine works in the F.O.S.I.L. office and we are usually running on our days off so it’s always a quick visit to drop off stuff and pick up mail and supplies for the island…so today was very nice!  Thanks for coming by.

Catherine and Jeff...Larry was trying to get out of the photo...but I caught him
Lunch…ham sandwiches, with fresh lettuce from our garden and some slices of tomato and chips, it’s amazing how a simple item like that can sometimes be the best tasting…and it was!
The fog continued through the day, so the fog horn continued also.  Its so faint, we don’t hear it half the time…hope those on the water can hear it well enough.
No more visitors came today.
