Day 37
Weekends
are always big days, boats on the water, people visiting, etc…
Our
overnight guest were up early exploring the island trails. We got to visit with them later, which was a
real treat. It’s a neat thing to see
Seguin through our guest eyes. We also
try to see what they might think needs to be worked on/improved. Simple things like I didn’t realize they
didn’t have any dish soap in the guest quarters to wash the dishes. I’ll get that fixed today!
Larry, Deb and Shawn |
My new
Coast Guard brother, Burton and his dog Abbi came back for their tour of the
museum. His dad, Charles Rankie served from 1971-73. His dads info isn’t on our
records, (my dad’s weren’t either),so he is going to contact the group and get
that to them. He’s hoping he can get his
dad out her before we go. He shared a
few photos of his dad living here on Seguin during his CG days. He and Abbi headed down the trail and to the cove to say good by.
We are
expecting our young love birds to arrive around noon for their wedding. Larry has made sure the giant wooden heart is
freshly painted and ready to be apart of the day. We placed four benches from around the island
around the area that they had chosen a few weeks ago for the “spot” to say
their “I does”.
Uncle
Bruce, the minister was the first to arrive carrying this giant nautical knot
rope which is part of their ceremony.
Fifteen in all showed up and after a couple of minutes, with everything
in its place, the ceremony began. I knew
that some had said they wanted to take some photos from the tower, so I went up
and stayed…well, I’ve got a great view of the ceremony and since I had a
camera….ok, I took photos of the entire ceremony. Now I have to figure out which “one” to put
on my blog. They are such a sweet young
couple. After many more photos from
their group of people they headed off to the reception to be held at the
Maritime Museum in Bath. They thanked us
several times for having the place look so nice and for having their wooden
heart out. As they left they said they
would be back out later this summer to pick up their heart. Something sweet that they grooms mother gave
them the night before was a silver bracelet that she had purchased from the
Friends of Seguin online gift shop. The
bracelet has the nautical “longitude and latitude” of Seguin stamped into
it. They signed our visitors book as a
married couple!

Another
group had come up, they hadn’t planned on stopping here, so they had just
enough time to do the museum and tower tour.
They said they were just out sailing, pulled into our cove and took a
nap…not making it to the Lobster boat races in Booth Harbor. They didn’t get to do any of the trail, but
plan on being back.
After
they left a family showed up, part of them are from Houston, Texas. They enjoyed the tours and went to eat their
late lunch out the back, on one of the benches.
It
started feeling a little more chilly as the day progressed. I think Maine weather is a little like Texas
weather….if you don’t like it, wait a minute and it will change!
Our
daughter in law is doing such a great job of keeping our place running. The rain that they are having in Texas is
devastating. She’s had to go cut down
trees that have fallen due to erosion.
The trees have fallen on fences and the cattle think it’s an invite to
visit the neighbors.
I asked
my pastor if I needed to build an Ark and come get them.
Its been
a full day, ready to wind down and get a glass of tea and start this blog. I wish my photos could capture just a small
amount of what I see.
