66 degrees w/ 14 mph winds
Day 81

Last night I figured it would be dark after four nights of bright moons….but no…this giant orange moon rose from the horizon…again I “tried” to capture it with my camera, and I’ll share what I took, but it just didn’t do it justice.

My first attempts kept putting light around the moon, but it really wasn't there.
Have no idea what button I pushed to be able to get this photo...this is what the sky and moon looked like!
Looking out to the other islands to the East and West of us and the mainland to the North is always fascinating.  We see the other lighthouses shining bright.  We also see homes and places of people we have met while we have been here.
Sometimes the little towns are sleepy and only a few lights on, but the night before last Monhegan Island was all lit up…different colors of lights.  They were also shooting fireworks…that is a sight to see those fireworks over the island and the sea.

My entryway
Wish I could send some of this weather home to Texas…it’s a little hot there!
Fresh flowers from the island

The winds are strong today and it’s a little hazy on the horizon.  For you guys back in Texas it’s not even 9 am yet and the sun is about in the noon position.  It gets bright “early” here and stays brighter longer.  But they say their winter days are short.  I can definitely see why Maine is a great place to spend your summers.

For dinner last night we finished off the leftover hamburger noodle thing….tasted better than the first night!...that’s always the way.

We have already started planning our meals so we can make our grocery list for Wed, our go ashore day…we have family: Trayce and Ted, coming to visit this great place and if we don’t plan well, then its PB & J sandwiches.

Just setting here thinking about our regular days…we don’t set the alarm to wake up anymore…its become natural to wake between 7 and 7:30, Bandits goes out, breakfast …yes Larry cooks, raising of the flag…weekends we put up two flags, we add the Seguin Lighthouse flag.  I start my blog so I can periodically come in and add a thought or tell you about something that has happened.  I usually do some kind of housework after breakfast and Larry usually heads down to the cove around 10:30.  He checks to see if we have any boats moored in the cove, piddles down there: checking the outhouse making sure it has it’s supplies, checks all the donation boxes, etc… while he waits for Ethan to arrive with our guests.  Depending on the number of people coming out depends on the boat that comes out.  Larry always tries to be down there to help them come ashore.  Brook, Ethan’s first mate, does a GREAT job, but sometimes folks just need a hand to steady their selves so they can step off the dingy.   He usually radio’s me and lets me know they are here and headed up the trail.  Bandit and I get into our places and prepare to meet and greet our visitors and our day has begun!

Rough seas below
A little after 10 this morning the fog started coming in all around us…the fog horn started, but it was a little more “manly” sounding, but after about 6 sounds it went the what we normally hear.  I’ll let the CG know that it has two tones.  They know it isn’t working at what it should be and are going to fix it…going to fix it!

A little foggy...this is looking west toward Boothbay Harbor
Saw a baby seagull, they are flying now, he was trying to walk on the wooden tram, it was funny to watch, like a tightrope walker.  Later when I stepped out I saw one of his parents about 15 foot behind him…watching!

We weren’t sure about the seas and the weather, so we really weren’t sure if Ethan would be coming today.  They did arrive, but when the visitors got up to where I am, they said they only had an hour, that Ethan was worried about the weather.  He knows the seas and the weather and it is for their safety.  So I gave my tour speech in about what felt like two minutes…..I’m sure I left out some, but I think they enjoyed what they got and that let the second set of folks go up the tower first, then switch out for the museum.  By 12:30 I was alone at the top, well me and Bandit.

Sailboats are loving these high winds
The sail boats are having fun out there…guessing this windy weather is there time to be on the sea.  Was trying to capture that great wave photo down at Cobble Stone Beach…saw my first seal come onto the rocks.  I’ve found them on the rocks, and I’ve found where they had come up and left the beach, but never watched on come on the island.
At 1:00 the temp was up to 70, but it doesn’t feel any different from earlier because of the wind. We did have one sailboat come in and park…moor their boat.

We only had one other couple come to visit us…they had been sailing and came into our cove because of the high winds and seas.

They are going in opposite directions, they came toooooo close for me! This was out the front door of our place.

An uneventful day after all the visitors.  Tried to go out and do a few things, but the wind would catch the doors and slam them shut while we were still holding them so we stayed inside and chilled.
