62 degrees w/2 mph winds
Day 47

We woke to the fog horn, was a little worried the weather wouldn’t be good for our overnight guest coming.  But it was just a little hazy.  The sun is bright today, almost intensified by the haze. So it’s going to be a good day.

10 am… The haze is gone, the sun is bright and even though its 65 degrees, we have little wind and are already sweating.
The Lobster boats are out and busy, guess the last two days weren’t good for them to be out working, so they are making up for it this morning.    Again there are several sailboats out.
Texted one of the F.O.S.I.L. members about the windows letting rain in during the gale winds.  They will need to check on it and let us know what we might can fix it.

Ethan is bringing a group around 11.  When we know we have visitors coming, it makes it difficult to “start” doing something big.  Like I need to take the little chest of drawers from the kitchen and sand, stain and varnish it.  But I need to be ready to receive my visitors and give tours and run the gift shop.  We try to make each visit special for each one.  So we putter around doing little things.

One more look around the guest quarters to make sure all is in its place and ready.  Yep….extra blankets available for them!
Ethan brought a boat load and we had two more individual boats come in.  Got to share my history and the history of our light with so many.  Gift shop sales were good.   The overnight guest are excited about being here.  They’ve each kind of taken to a different part of the island, taking in the views, the sun and the solitude.

They came back from taking the south trail and loved it.  They saw several baby gulls, little fluff balls about the size of a softball.  They also saw several nest with eggs still in them…..more babies to come!  I told them at low tide that it was a good time to go down and look for sea glass, the two teenage girls did.
They told us they didn’t want to miss the sunsets, I told them I would come get them and we would go up to the top of the light and watch it.  They seem to be having a good time.

Excited about tomorrow….some of our kids and their family….my grandbabies…will be arriving and are coming to spend a week with us!!!  Thank you to the Friends of Seguin for rounding me up some lifejackets for my gb’s!!

The moon is full tonight and we really didn’t get a good sunset…too many clouds in the sky.

Making our list of what to do on our "on shore" day.

Sorry folks, but my computer is having issues today...it will not allow me to download any pictures.  I'll try to add them tomorrow.

Day 46

Went to sleep in the storm and woke to a beautiful day, sun shining bright, no rain, with a light breeze.  The seas look smooth, but I can see they are rolling high, almost hypnotic.  It isn’t until they reach Cobble Stone beach that the wave comes in with some force.  We have already seen one sailboat out to the East of us.  Later several sailboats were out…guessing this is there kind of weather!
Waves are still coming in hard and high
It looks smooth to me, but I bet a surfer would enjoy the waves we've seen

Breakfast Burritos to start the morning!

Around 11 the grass was dry enough to start working on it again.  Larry finished some around the house, then down the main path.

Saw a sailboat headed to our cove, so we thought we might be getting company.  You know how you can clean house much quicker when companies coming…well I did so much work outside trying to finish…then I saw them sail off.  Bandit barked at them, which was a first for him to bark at a boat, and for it to be such a distance away!?!

Trying to get a good photo of the waves for you to see what we see
Around 2 a family of three came up. They said the waves were rough.  The older gentleman had served in the CG in the 80's and knew a lot of history of our light.  He was excited to go up and see it. That was the only visitors for today.
Rocks everywhere and the cable to the island.....

We went down to the cove to see if there was any damage.  The waves did a number on the beach…it took almost all of the sand away leaving a million rocks.  Guess they were always under the sand.  The cable to the island is very much exposed  and I can see that they haven’t fixed the one problem area yet….so I’m going to send the CG an email and keep them up to date.  Everything else looked fine, no damage.

Our overnight guest for Tuesday night called and there will be 4 to 5 people.  We will be ready for them and they should have a great time being able to spend more time on the island, the sunsets, the sunrises, the morning air….yep it will be good.

More yard work, I finished the porch landing on our side, now for our showers and ready to sit and relax.  Too tired for dinner...think we will just skip it tonight!

Day 45

55 degrees w/ 23 mph winds this morning at 9 am by 3 pm the temp had dropped to 51 with up to 45 mph winds…Gale winds! I had let Bandit out this morning about 2:30 am and everything was still normal, no rain, little wind.

Looked through every window to see if we could see any damage…benches are turned over, but nothing more to see.  Went to the museum and there was water coming from both of the South windows, one had made a stream of water across the room.  We tried to take photos of what we see, which is high seas and lots of white caps showing us the strength and height of the waves.
High waves

Gale winds and High waves today at Cobble Stone Beach
A regular day of waves at Cobble Stone beach
The tall grass and shrubs are being blown in both directions at the same time.  The gulls are out, but not many.  What really got us laughing this afternoon was while we were looking at our digital weather station, it shows the speed at the time and it also shows the average speed for the last 10 min.  While looking at it, the average speed message went away and then it said, “Hold onto your Hat”.

Breakfast this morning was breakfast burritos.

We read for a while out of the book of Numbers, then watched a few videos.  Lunch was leftovers, I had chicken strips, asparagus and rice while Larry finished off the Beef and mushroom gravy with rice.  Planning on frying fish tonight.
Looking out the museum window, the other windows are covered in rain

Someone had asked us if we would be ok today, knowing the storm was coming…..I look forward to the storms.  I love the intenseness of them, I love the rains, and if it thunders…I sleep like a baby!   This storm makes me think of what is just above our heads….the light…solid and standing strong in this storm, giving aid to those who might be on the water.  I’ve listened to the different boaters and they respect the seas, they are always headed home by 5 pm.  The sea dictates when and where they go.  I did however find it odd that we could hear the ship that goes to Nova Scotia daily.  I hear them talking to someone in Portland, Maine about coming into port…Today, really?

Later we did a little housework.  Our children and grandchildren will be visiting soon.  We blew up a couple of air mattresses, put the sheets on them and gathered blankets.  I’ve sent them word of our cool morning and warm afternoons….layering clothes is a great idea.

We’ve worked on our grocery list for our next shore day.  I don’t want my GB’s to want something and I not have it!

We’ve got to get in touch with our “lobster” guy and set up a delivery of some sea spiders…I’m allergic, but the rest of the gang is looking forward to some Maine Lobster! Image result for maine lobster cartoons

Ok…I’ve never cooked one before, but I’m thinking that’s just one more great experience of being out here on the rock.

I tinkered in the museum cleaning, straightening and making sure nothing was getting ruined by the water that had come in.  All seemed to be good after putting a few towels around the windows….something to be done later when its dry.

Dinner of fish-n-chips and homemade tauter sauce.

61 degrees w/ 2 knots

I tried for over an hour last night to get my blog posted.  Computer kept freezing up even after shutting it down a couple of times.  Finally got it done this morning, but not sure I proof read it before sending…oops! It has to do with the attachments that I want all of you to see.

Slept in a little this morning…8:30!  Larry was already up working on his computer stuff.  He works with the Big 12 Equestrian Judges.  Most everything he does is via the computer.  He was even having trouble this morning with this computer.

As I sit here trying to enter a few thoughts, I went back in my head about 50 years and wondered what dad would have thought about having a computer, cell phones, digital electronic weather machines, digital cameras, and such out here on this island.  Mom said she usually got to call back to Texas once a month, maybe.  The pictures we have of our life on both Pond and Seguin Island are about 15 for almost a two year timeframe.  They were expensive to buy the film, the flashbulbs and then to get them developed…only to find out that half of them didn’t come out or were fuzzy, etc…. And here I am upset that my computer wouldn’t download photos as quickly as I would have liked so I could post a blog that goes out all over the world in a matter of seconds!!!!

Guess what we had for breakfast…no blueberries in the pancakes this morning.  Just didn’t take the time to put them in….had to get in here and mess with the computer!
Just a sailboat sailing by

Larry’s on the move this morning….already “turned” the toilets and headed down to the cove to work.  I need to do some more touch up to the signs below, but I have got to get some little paintbrushes…the q-tip I tried yesterday did ok, but not up to what I wanted.  I’m thinking of making another sign for the gift shop up here, right outside the door!  What color, what size, where to hang it, etc…something that will catch the eye of our visitors as they come up the hill.  That’s my project for the today, with the weather forecast for tomorrow, that’s when I will stay in and clean the house.

A family of three generations, who have been coming every summer for the past 12 years came today.  Larry was able to share little bits of info and history that they hadn’t heard before….like the bell, they knew it was new, but didn’t have the history.  They took lots of family photos on the rock outside my back door.  I took one of the entire bunch for them with their camera.  They enjoyed a picnic lunch on our picnic table and continued to talk with Larry about Texas and the weather and what he used to do and more.  They are from Connecticut and Delaware and vacation here during the summers.

Several more families came, some having never been here while other make a trip annually.  One gentleman talked of a photo with a P-3 Airplane flying over Seguin…I took him straight to the photo and he told us about the maneuvers that they would do between Seguin and Fort Popham.  The plane was his squadron.

Several furry friends came and visited today.  They all seem to enjoy the island as much as their people.  Rolling in the grass, running and jumping.  I keep a bowl of water up here for them which they seem to really enjoy.
One of the signs in the Museum

You remember the red paint I’m wearing from the other day, well now I’m wearing a greenish gray.  Its water based, so it will be gone tonight! I repainted a table in our vestibule and touched up a bench…they were both already this color, they just needed a little TLC.

Oil can backpack..it was used to carry oil up to light
Larry finished mowing and I finished my painting.  Don’t think anyone will be coming up now since it’s getting late and the “gale” winds are coming tomorrow.  I was told “gale” meant strong, like 40 mph winds.  We will do a few things around here that the winds might affect.

We are already tired, not sure if we will see the sunset. But here is what we saw later last night.

Friday June 26, 2015
57 degrees w/ 6 knots

The day started a little hazy.  The seas are so smooth, can’t see any waves, it looks like glass.  There are more boats out on the water than I’ve ever seen at one time.
In the very middle is the State Bird of Maine...Chickadee, they are small!

Last night I removed as much of the red paint off my skin as I could….dressing this morning I found a few spots I missed.

Breakfast of Coffee and Blueberry pancakes….becoming a regular diet for us…loving the Maine blueberries!

Friends from Texas just text me and said they want to come visit Seguin next week.  They are originally from Maine and were excited when I told them we were headed here this summer.

Treasures from the Sea...sea glass and shells
Worked a little more on the Kiosk this morning, then I heard some voices down in the cove….a couple of kayakers who came from Popham beach.  They lived about 90 miles up the coast and had just come down for a visit.  This was their first time to Seguin.

Then Ethan arrived with a full boat of people.  I got to go down to the waters edge and help get them to shore. Some stayed on the boat, Ethan was taking the around the island to do some fishing.  Arriving on shore were a couple and then a group of wonderful young boy scouts from Boston, Mass.  Bandit also helped welcome the group.

The Boy Scouts had lots of good questions and Larry was able to answer them.  They enjoyed the tours and went on to enjoy the south trail before meeting the boat back to shore.
Boy Scouts getting a tour of the Light

Boy Scouts having fun in my back yard
My phone…which is my brain and communication with the world “died”.  So I went to use Larry’s phone to call the Seguin office and guess who hadn’t put the numbers in his phone.  This will be ok!  The office had called to tell me about some guest coming next week, that’s when we got cut short by my phone.  Thank God, my daughter was able to help me do CPR on it via facebook!  It’s alive and kickin!

With the visitors finished and headed down was the time to have a quick lunch of left over spaghetti.  The sun is shining bright and the temp went up to 70, but the breeze from the ocean is a little nippy.  We are planning on yard work till Ethan calls us back on the radio….he’s bringing a contractor out and needs Larry to come out with the dingy to get them.

I write my post at different times of the day.  Sometimes I start it right after breakfast, then I add a little info throughout the day or I don’t start writing till about 8pm, so with that said, I might write in future or past text depending on when I get a moment to write.  Hopefully you are being bored with silly things like what we had for breakfast, etc…

You can also tell I am not grammatically correct.  I write like I talk….so when there are “dot dot dots” that is just where I took a moment to make an expression or get your attention, etc…  If my Texan slang comes out…I don’t try to go in an fix it, like if I say fixin too.

Sold my first Christmas Seguin Ornaments today.  The couple couldn’t decide which one to get, the smooth edge one or the scalloped edge one…so they bought both!

Ethan came back out about 4:30 with someone who’s going to give a bid to the F.O.S.I.L. group about doing work on the old “Oil House”.  I love that little building, it would make the perfect little beach cottage.  More yard work and plans to prepare our fish that we picked up on Wed.  Thinking about putting lemon and dill on it and putting it in parchment paper to bake…this would be a first for me.

Dinner….fixed the fish by baking it in butter and lemon juice with some dill and breadcrumbs on top.  To go with it I fixed asparagus and rice.  I did good!
Larry watching the sunset with me

After dinner we were able to catch a few sunset photos, but the temp had dropped down to 57 and we didn’t spend much time doing that. Sunsets are always a fabulous way to end the day.  We stand out and can almost get a 360 view of our surroundings, the beautiful old historic buildings and the tower and The Light…wow!

Day 42

You know how you wish summer would come because your cold….well the thought of HOT days doesn’t sound good to us right now.  We are loving the cool breezes and chilly nights.  We’ve got a heater down in the living room that is great for taking the chill off…but I keep turning it off at night welcoming the cold air to sleep in.

Spain is only 3000 miles straight across the sea, Texas 2000 miles
I don’t write down that we raise the flag every morning and lower it every evening.  It’s just become a given, something we do automatically without thinking about it.

We haven’t even had our coffee and I’m already working in the gift shop.  We received new inventory of Fleece vest and jackets…I had a spot for them, but this is the first time I’ve had them on the shelves.

Spiral staircase going up the tower
Larry said he hears the toilets and the North trail calling to be worked on.  These compost toilets are different.  They require constant upkeep to keep them functioning correctly.  They are at the same time kinda neat with the concept of “no water”.  There is one in each side of the duplex and one at the cove.
Entry to the tower

I hear the kiosk calling my name.  It is at the beginning of the Lighthouse trail.  It contains all the island rules and other bits of information.  I’m going to give it a fresh coat of white paint where all the info goes and clean the glass.  Last years keepers info is still up, so I’ve got to get our bio printed and pick it up at the office so we can get it on the board.  After the kiosk, if I have time today I’m going to touch up some of the other cove signs.  There is a “Welcome” sign, a “Do Not Anchor” sign, and another sign letting the boaters and guest know we have a “Museum and Gift shop”.

We had several visitors, some Ethan brought and two other boats came on their own.  Had a couple of teenagers that were really interested in the history of the island.  One couple had lived in Boothbay for many years and had come to Popham beach for the last fifteen years and had never been to Seguin.  They were amazed at the grounds, the buildings, the history and the views…they will be back!
After the visitors left, we grabbed a quick lunch which was hot dogs and chips!  With it being such a gorgeous day we figured there would be more visitors, but no….so back to work!

Larry pointing out what can be seen from the tower
Some of our visitors today
Finally got back to my painting on the kiosk and….You know when your really concentrating on something in one hand, and you don’t realize that the other hand  is holding something like a can of red paint…my green clogs will never look the same!
Larry worked till late on the North Trail.  He saw our first set of 2 baby gulls.  They were all fuzzy fluffy looking about the size of a softball.  They went running and momma wasn’t happy with Larry, she didn’t dive bomb him, but she was about 2 foot above his head calling him names!!

Chives blooms
Exhausted…and since we can’t get Pizza delivered out here…I had to cook…Hamburger patties, mushroom and onion brown gravy, salad, and baked potatoes with all the fixins.

With the dishes done, now its time for our “Sunset show” to end the evening.  It’s a different show every night.

Usually I give you the morning temp..
Day 41

Shore Day….up early, gathered our container, dirty clothes, empty water jugs, paperwork for the office, and my list.

Met Ethan at 7 am with two WW.  Gave Ethan his “cookies”…I try to make a batch the night before for our WW and Ethan.  Bandit had gone down the hill with us just in case no WW came today.  He was not a happy puppy when we got in the boat, he was running the shore line, went to the rocks and was running over them, even went up the stairs from the cove and came around to the boat house trying to go with us.  I’m really surprised he didn’t decide to learn to swim.

We’ve got this shore time figured out now…drop off our trash and fill our water jugs at Cyndy’s.  Then went and started the laundry, ran to the office, ran back to the laundry and put it in the dryer, ran to Southgate for breakfast, and back to the laundry mat to fold the laundry!  Makes me tired just typing it!  Then to get army green paint for a few projects….Rodgers Ace Hardware girls did an excellent job matching our sample.  We have to be strict on the paint colors used on the duplex and lighthouse.

Groceries and Lowes and then back to Bath for Walgreens.  We were looking for some fresh fish.  We went down close to a park on Front Street in Bath and decided to just kill a little time and walk around.  On our way back we walked by a Pawn shop and stopped in.  Met some real nice folks, they knew Ethan and said they come out to the island every year.  While we were talking they told us of a place to get fresh fish….Plants...(that’s the name of the place).  We bought a couple of pds of Haddock.

We finished by going to Spinney’s Restaurant next to Fort Popham.  We split a chicken tender basket for lunch and waited for Ethan at 3.  Finished and unloaded our supplies and I went and parked the pickup.  Popham Community Chapel lets us park there…thanks!  Walking back down to the pier, we loaded and back to the island.  The ride was bumpy, but that’s ok, make you realize your awake and on the sea and it sprays and hits you in the face.

The WW were exhausted and ready to go home…I had left them cookies…they said they ate them all and were grateful.  Bandit was so excited to see us.  He is sitting on my foot as I type this….guess he doesn’t want me to get away.  The WW said that we had only three visitors today.  They were from Australia and come to America and spend three months a year sailing the coast of Maine.  The WW said that a window pane got broke in the Museum….but they fixed it….with duck tape.  They will be back out and fix it correctly next week…just love what you can do with duck tape!!

Tired and sore…I fell backwards, well it was really like I sat down and leaned backwards on the rocks in the cove…I was laughing because it was all in slow motion….and of course the guys on the boat saw it all…legs in the air…dang!

I didn’t mention the weather…it is gorgeous!  Families were out on Popham Beach playing in the water and sand.  Dogs running into the water chasing toys and bringing them back and guys fishing off big rocks around the Fort.  I didn’t see any seals today, maybe they are scared of the people.
Next shore day we pick up one of our boys and his family and our daughter…can’t wait to see them and share this island with them.  Four generations on Seguin!

Only pictures are of tonight just a little after sundown.
Another beautiful day on Seguin comes to an end

Day 40

Wow…40 days, it seems like it’s only been a week.  The clouds are thick, but it’s bright outside this morning with some drizzle.  Stayed up late last night trying to get my blog to post, but everything was running in super slow mode.  I finally got it to post this morning, but it wasn’t much faster.  Praying my computer wakes and does its job for the rest of the time we are out here.

Tuesday mornings are usually the time we drink coffee and get out our list of what needs to be done while we are ashore.  Listing to the weather station on the radio we aren’t sure if tomorrow will be a good day for Ethan to come get us.
Noon photo from keepers porch looking SW

This is what it looked like around noon
This is what it looked like at 9 pm...still so bright
One of our list is for food…trying to plan a menu and get all those little items that are usually in your pantry or you could borrow from a neighbor have made us better meal planners.  Another thing we have learned on this island is to make smaller meals.  I still tend to make enough for our entire family…cooking for two is different.  We want to find a local fish market…we find all kinds of places for lobster and that kind of seafood, I’m wanting some fish! Our second list is everything we need to do besides the grocery store.  If we need any prescription filled and picked up, paint supplies or repair items from Rodgers or shampoo, etc…  We also have a list for the Friends of Seguin office where we turn in our sales and pick up new items to stock the gift shop.  We get our mail from the office and talk with Catherine about anything we might need to know.  And of course we have to plan where we want to eat breakfast and lunch!  We also have to do laundry…I miss my washer and dryer!  Washer and dryer or island living?  I choose the island!

We had about two hours of thunderstorms today with thick fog around the island.  A day to sit inside and rest, take a nap, watch a movie on the computer, play card games or all the above!

Spaghetti sounded good for a late lunch and early dinner with garlic toast.

The sun has since come out and the fog slowly faded away.  I haven’t had to water my vegetable garden since I planted it.  It rains every couple of days and does the work for me.  Not too many photo’s I can take during the rain.

Ethan thinks it will be ok to go ashore tomorrow.

Another view out the front at 9 pm
The rain let up but just for a little while.  Around 8 pm the thunderstorms started.  I’ve got a few photos of what it looked like at 9 pm.
Looking out my kitchen window at noon
I had two seagulls out on the lawn, one flew away when I came out on the porch, but the other one must have something wrong with him…he’s been out there for most of the day and didn’t fly off anytime I went out to look at the weather.
The seagull is just to the right of the bell...9 pm

Day 39

This is a day late because I tried several times last night to post, but my computer wasn't working correctly....its still not working the best this morning, but its going to let me send it.

Last night about midnight Larry called me outside.  I have never seen something so breathtaking as the night sky last night.  It was as though the rain yesterday had washed the air.  There were no clouds, just dark sky with the brightest stars I’ve ever seen.  The lighthouse was shining its light, but it is like an umbrella and shoots out and down, so it didn’t interfere with the night sky.  The sky was darker and yet bright.  The stars seemed so close that I felt closer than I ever had to them.  There weren’t just a few stars either, the sky was filled…and it wasn’t the little twinkly things we are used to seeing…these were like a 4 ct diamond compared to a speck of glass.  I would have loved to just lay out all night and look at them.

Today was a little hazy to start with, the sun was shining, but still behind some clouds.  The air was chilly.

Breakfast of warmed Banana Bread with butter and coffee, then off to work.  Larry was going to go down to the cove and do a little work, so I grabbed my sand buckets and we headed down.  There was a sailboat moored in the cove.  It wasn’t until much later that they came ashore and took a tour and bought some tshirts!

I think we saw Burton come into the cove also.  He was having difficulty trying to “long board” a friend (girl) to shore.  After a while of trying to fight the wave they gave up and left.  I was looking forward to hearing more info his father had told him about living here as a bachelor in the early ‘70’s.   He will be back I hope…with Abbi!

Larry giving tours
I looked for sea glass and Bandit ran like a puppy chasing the waves and running around the rocks on the beach.  I gathered my three buckets of sand and up the stairs we all went from the cove to the beginning of the tram.  I wasn’t ready to go up yet, so I went out to the end of the Boat House and sat.  Just sitting there watching the water, ducks, seagulls and the sailboats, I would have thought the water was too rough, but what do I know!

I saw the collection of Lobster Buoys and began to think about using them.  I decided to finish “decorating” the railings of the tram, the outhouse, and the boathouse deck.  I ran out of rope, but I have about three more and a Lobster cage that I want to do something with.

I came on back up to the top with my sand and Bandit and I began lunch….Chicken strips and mashed potatoes!

Larry and the only visitors we had today, the two gentlemen from the sailboat came up shortly afterwards.

Visitors

It seems to be getting colder.  We both finished our lunch and rested out of the cold.  I worked some on my inventory from sales from the gift shop.  Started planning what we will do on our next “shore” day.  Read some and just relaxed.

I never get tired of my views...looking out the porch towards the NE

Dinner….Breakfast!  I love breakfast for dinner!

Larry received several “Happy Fathers Day” wishes from the kids and other family members.  We don’t get on the internet but a few moments every night to send out my blog.
Wish you could see what this really looks like...photos just don't do it justice

Goodnight!

Sunday June 21, 2015

Day 38

It has rained all night with a steady drizzle.  The fog has socked us in and the fog horn has done its job and sounded all night and day.  The sound is not intrusive at all, soft and gentle calling out over the ocean, talking to the sailors.

Foggy
It’s Sunday and here is my verse…
The Lord is my Light and my Salvation; Psalms 27:1

Happy Fathers Day to all the wonderful men in my life.  To my Daddy, Ronald David Howard who is in Glory now, to my grandfather, Joe Alan Pittman who is in Glory, to my husband the father of our children, Larry, to our sons, to my Brothers, Kevin and Kris, and to all the uncles, cousins, neighbors, friends and coworkers.  Being a father is such a honorable job that you have been blessed with.  For a child to love their father, their daddy, the man who raising them to become great men of God…..Thank you!
My Daddy

We aren’t sure if we will still be seeing our overnight guest tonight.  The waves are high and rough.  Not sure if the fog  is just up around the top of this rock, or if it covers the water.  Makes me think of those who are out at sea and look for the light to guide them to safety.

Today was a lazy day of sleeping in, then breakfast….yes blueberry pancakes!!  Some Bible reading and then relaxing.  Larry has received many text and calls wishing him a Happy Fathers day!!

Lunch of leftover chicken potpie and a nap.  What a beautiful Sunday afternoon.  No not because the sun isn’t shining or anything like that, but because I am here on the beautiful rock, off the coast of Maine, which I have come to find so breathtaking.  I know I talk a lot about the sights and sounds, but they are surreal…the waves crashing, the winds blowing, the birds calling, the clouds as they make their marks across the sky.  As I look to the East….Spain is 3000 miles away…Texas is only 2000 from here.  The vastness of what we see daily is a blessing.

I’ve promised Larry I would make banana bread out of the bananas that are left before they go bad.  He’s going to make fried chicken tonight for dinner…he loves to cook and I love for him to cook!
Fried Chicken for dinner and chef Larry
Banana Bread

Last night as I was sitting on the couch I saw a bright star falling, it lasted long enough that I was able to realize what it was and then get Larry’s attention to see it.  I’ve seen falling stars before but this one was so bright, I guess since it was so dark out to sea.
Gas Grill that is now part of the islands toys

About 7:30 pm the sun tried to break through and it did break up the dark clouds some.  Not much of a sunset but it is a beautiful sight to our day.  The seas seemed to settle a little, so we could get our overnight guest, but I doubt it.  The sea dictates what you do and don’t do on them.
The sun is trying to come out

Happy Birthday to my brother-in-law…John!  Also he and my sister, Penny just celebrated their 26th Anniversary!
