65 degrees w/ 4 mph winds

Day 101

Woke to hazy day.  It had rained some, but looked like it would clear off.  Nope….the fog came in about 8am and then it started raining.  We had Breakfast Burritos and while we were eating we saw two people in raincoats go by the window.  Larry hopped up and went to greet them.  He headed around to go into the museum, and give them a tour of the tower, etc…  When they had finished it was raining pretty heavy so Larry was setting with them on the front porch.  They were still talking about the island and all that we do, what the F.O.S.I.L. group does, they had left Portland at 5am.  Larry got them to come in and have coffee with us.  It was a pleasure to have them in out of the cold and wet and they were very thankful.  They finished their coffee’s and wanted to head back down the hill and continue to Monhegan.

By 8:30 it was raining harder.  Fog horn is going off. Can see off onto the ocean some through the haze.  Not sure if our family members will be able to make it off the island today…they are flying back to Texas. 

Bandit went outside at sometime and then he was barking to tell us he wanted back in…looked like a little orphan sitting there wet, with the rain still coming down!

Texted Ethan and he is coming, so my guest are starting to pack and get ready.  Big group from Ethan….about 23 were all for one ladies birthday…they had been planning this for a while.

Also met a gentleman and his son, Stephan Frizzell and Ben Frizzell, Stephan had served in the USCG and was stationed temporarily here on Seguin in 1965.  Wish I could have spent a little more time with him.

Found some sea glass and gave some to Stephan and Ben…they were intrigued with it….wow…a little piece of Seguin to go home with them.  I thanked him for serving out here…what a pleasure to meet him.  He was so quiet, I be he could have shared some stories!

Another group from their own boat came, they are Friends of Seguin, they were enlightened about possibly staying out her on the island in the guest quarters.

Lunch… we snacked on some leftovers and decided to do a little reading while it wasn’t the best outside.

The fog lifted a little for all the visitors, but around 4:30 it became very thick.

Called Cyndy about the dimensions of our little wagon.  It seemed to do very well on bringing supplies up the hill since the Tram isn’t useable…but it’s little front wheels are broke…she is trying to get another one.

Wow…time has flown.  I love it here on Seguin.  The sun is bright, the fog is thick, the horn is sounding, the waves are crashing, the sea gulls are squawking, the Flag high and proud and is flapping….and I’m breathing and smiling and thanking God for this time in my life, for all the many wonderful “Mainers” I’ve met and now call friends, for being able to “re-live” a moment in history!  Blessed, Blessed, Blessed!

My mother will be returning with my siblings this coming Thursday.  They will only have a few days to spend with us, to let mom share her and dad’s life out here.  Praying that all works well…from their flight, their travel by car, their boat trip out here, their time here, the boat trip back to land, and their travel and flight back to Texas….Praying!

Had a wonderful time with my Uncle and Aunt.  Looking at him and hearing him talk, allowed me to at moments take a step back in time and imagine my daddy, his brother, out here on the island.  We laughed, shared stories, went on island adventures, enjoyed good food, and made memories!

When you read my writings, this blog, emails, text, etc… I tend to use !! a lot  I get excited about what I’m talking about…sometimes I want to put an exclamation mark in front of my sentence to tell you I’m excited at the beginning!!

When I went to look at the photo’s I took today to add to my blog…I still had it on nighttime photography so most of my shots have a lot of white in them, a few turned out ok.

62 degrees w/ 9 mph winds

Day 100

Woke and the fog is gone!! It’s kind of a rainy looking day, the skies are dark and there is moisture in the air.  I’ve already seen a couple of sailboats out and naturally the lobsterman.  I’m so glad the fog lifted so I can show my guest the sites from here.

We all woke early….coffee out on the porch….Andy went out taking a few photos and I took a photo of him on our little rock in the front yard.

Breakfast….Larry made….Blueberry Pancakes and bacon!

10:00 am this morning we went down to the cove to hunt for sea glass….found a red!!

While we were there it started sprinkling and a sailboat came into the cove, they came ashore with a giant poodle, Mason…he will be a yr old this next week.  They had never been here before, so I started my tour down in the cove, then they headed to the Cobble Stone Trail.  We met them up at the top of the hill and they said they had friends coming in another boat soon.  So we toured the museum and they said they wanted to go up the tower so all three came up. After my “tour” info of the lens, etc… I went to open the catwalk door and the gentleman ask, “What’s that?” Then he was amazed at the view!  I love it!  While we were on the catwalk their friends arrived, they didn’t want to come up and by the time I got down, I didn’t see anyone.

Lunch…Ham and Cheese sandwiches with more of our fresh lettuce from our garden and slices of tomatoes.  After we cleared the table we started a card game and had the best time.  They asked how we have been out here, questions about when mom and dad were here, etc….had a great time!

Oh…I think I see the sun!  Overnight guest will be arriving today, not sure when…so I need to take one more look around over there to make sure everything is perfect!!

My guest have not seen high tide vs low tide, so went down around 5 to see the high tide.  We went on out to the Cove Trail and ate blackberries and took photos and looked for more sea glass….you can never have enough sea glass…and there is always the chance that we might find the RED one!!  Had a great time at the end of the cove, the waves, the sea gulls and Larry saw a seal, but we looked and couldn’t find it.  It was getting dark and there was some sprinkling of rain coming. So we decided to stop and go home!

We have a sailboat in the cove, but I’m guessing that the two groups from this morning hooked up and went out on one boat….maybe to head to a nearby harbor and have dinner.

Made it back up to the top, cloud are dark, and we are able to see Monhegan for the first time in several days.  Worried about where my overnight guest are, haven’t heard anything yet.  Called Ethan and he said they weren’t coming tonight. 

Took a few evening photos of Cuckolds Lighthouse, a rainbow coming down on Damariscove Island and the flag in our front yard, the sun was illuminating it.

Dinner plans….BBQ Chicken, Baked Beans and rolls and of course Sweet Texas Tea!

Sunset is gorgeous tonight…we sure have missed seeing it.

66 degrees w/  11 mph winds

Day 99                                                                                            

Went to sleep in the fog and woke to fog, so naturally that means the fog horn was constant…but it doesn’t bother us any.

These little critters have been coming in during the night....yuck

Worked in the gift shop with some tshirts that we are going to put on SALE….rearranged some of the shelves

Wasn’t sure if Ethan would be coming out or not, didn’t hear till right before they left Popham.  I’m glad he came out…he had two of our family members with him, Andy and Donna Howard, Andy is my dad’s little brother, he was a Sophomore/Junior when we were out here.  They are going to stay a few nights.  Praying for the fog to lift so they can see the spectacular 360 degree view from here.  Ethan only had a total of eight visitors and one puppy.  Tours were quick and off they went to go on the South Trail, then back down to the cove to go back.  Made Ethan and Brook lunch…they are general surprised and are very gracious.

Lunch…Ham & Cheese sandwiches with lettuce from my garden and sliced tomatoes…and chips.  Donna had brought a zucchini break/cake that Judy had made…OMG! 

Visitors left and we didn’t have anyone else come up.  Bob…a sailboat in the cove, came up and said hi while we were waiting on Ethan…anyway, he said he might come up, he just always likes to stop here.  He said he wouldn’t bother us if he did decide to come up….so we didn’t hear from anyone else the rest of the day.

Gave my guest a tour of the museum and tower…Donna purchased a couple of t-shirts.  Larry and Andy caught a quick nap.  When they woke, we took off on the South Trail.  Thought the fog might be lifting for a moment, but nope it was still think when we arrived back at the top.  I got to share life from 1960-61 with them.  Things mom and dad did and didn’t do, etc…  Later we went out and looked at the lighthouse “doing it’s thing”.

Dinner….OMG…Thank you Judy and James….these are Donna’s brother and sister-in-law that live here in Maine.  They sent us ribs, that we grilled, baking potatoes and corn on the cob…I had some rolls and all the trimmings for the baked potatoes!  Delicious!!!  When the dishes were done we started playing cards, having a great time, then I realized I hadn’t done my blog…so here it is.  Praying that the fog clears and weather is good so they can see this beautiful place and that our overnight guest will be able to make it out here tomorrow and that my personal guest can make it back on Sunday.

So it was foggy all day and the temp never went above 68…we did need relief from the heat of the last four days!
