Day 63

After a good night sleep, we woke early and headed to breakfast…we had a nice little breakfast, gathered our stuff….back up those stairs….then down…and we are headed to Popham.

I drove through downtown Bath showing them the Chocolate Church…because it’s painted brown.  We then went through Main Street and pointed out where momma went up to see the doctor who told her she was “expecting” my sister Penny.  I showed them the Bath Iron Works, the Maritime Museum, and the Plant retirement home.  Mom said it looked the same that it did back in 1960.  Momma wanted to know if the Stage Coach Hotel was still here.  She said it was really old and had this huge wide staircase that led upstairs.  It only had one bathroom for the entire floor.

Now to Popham Beach to take them to the beach and see the Fort before we caught the ferry to the island.  We talked about the riptides, the seals, the temperature change between where we were standing vs the temp on the island.  We walked around Fort Popham, took photo’s.  When I saw Ethan’s boat, we headed to the dock.  Darlene, one of my momma’s, is deathly afraid of water.  She did great.  The tide was high, but we still had to climb down a ladder from the dock to get into the boat.  The ladies did great.  I introduced my momma and mommas to Ethan and Brook.  We enjoyed the boat ride out, showing them Pond Island first.    Then we arrived…Seguin!  We didn’t tell Darlene about the dingy ride from the boat to shore…so this was either going to be fun or terrible…she did great, just like she had done it a million times.  Tide was high and that meant that we would get off on the rocks which were covered by “lots” of seaweed.  Again, they did great, momma only fell twice…dang that seaweed.  Bandit was so happy to see her!

Now we had to get up the hill.  They were tired, but troopers and Brook was our hero.  He grabbed half of our luggage and one large duffle bag of clean laundry and started up the hill….we took our time.  I tried to get up here a little quicker because all the guest that had been on the ferry with us, were now up at the lighthouse.

I arrived at the top and the island was covered in kids that were having a blast playing games….what…kids having fun playing games with each other and not on some phone/game machine, etc… They were a great bunch of kids, they said they had been in Small Point summer school and the parents, etc and had come to spend some time here.  Wow…as they left almost every kid said “bye” and “Thank You”….how sweet.
All the other ferry visitors were looking around.  Larry started the tower tours and I began inviting them into the museum and gave directions to the different trails.  I love it when I give info in the museum and then you can “see” people become inthrilled with Seguin!
Summer School kids

Boy it got quiet as quick as it had gotten wild and loud.  Another couple of visitors came up later, but they said this was something they did every year…but they still did the tours…

Now I got time to talk to the girls about where everything was…their bedrooms, the bathroom, the kitchen, etc…

Larry made a platter of cheeses, summer sausage, vegetable, crackers and dried fruit….he said he was going to spoil them and he has started out well.
Desk set up...Sue worked hard to find the items to replicate the original USCG desk as seen in the photo

Enjoying our food

While we are enjoying our appetizers…he is in the kitchen fixin Chicken Pot Pie…Blessed!

He calls us to the dinner table and it is laid out and ready with our individual drink orders.  Blessing said and we ate!  Then we pulled out all the dessert things we bought for the week and put it in the middle of the table…like having a slumber party…poor Larry!!

It’s been a good day…my momma is here with me under the same roof some 53 years since we lived here!  Looking forward to finding out some more info from her as we walk around the island…I will share later!  Now to watch the sunset in the cold it's 59 degrees.
Waiting for the sunset...it's bright, but the sun is going down.
A perfect sunset to a perfect day

Day 62

This was our normal go ashore day…plus it was the day I go pick up my momma, aunt and two other momma’s.  Only had a couple of WW come on the island: Ken and Cyndy.  Larry had an eye issue that had to be checked out so we had an appt with a Dr Mark Marotto in Bruswick.  He said it was already getting better and gave him some drops. We finished doing our regular things….laundry, office, groceries, etc....I got Larry back to Popham to catch a ride back with Ethan to the island, along with all the supplies (I hope they are all up the hill and put away when I get there later).

Three of my grandbabies getting ready to leave
The girls had flown to Boston from DFW, then caught the bus to Portland.  They had been up since 3:30 am Texas time!  They were exhausted and hungry!
There go by babies...sad!

We headed to Brunswick where we got a couple of rooms at a Motel, then went to find something to eat….not too many places are open after 7 around here.  I wanted a family type restaurant…the lady that ran the desk at the motel suggested a place that was still open.  We went to Ebenezer’s Brew Pub…we closed them down, they will never be the same, the guy said to me as we left, “you’ve got your hands full”!  No chicken fried steak, no fried okra, no pecan pie…momma’s headed home!  No not really, but that’s what it was like last night. The food we had was good, but the laughter was great….we had the others in the Pub talking with us and carrying on with us.  Momma and Mary tried to drink coffee out of square cup….they dribbled a little and figured to go to the corner.

Navy guys worked on weed eatting an area thats a little difficult to do!
Boat house next to our beach that the Navy guys worked on replacing some wood

Exhausted we headed back to the motel where everyone has their own bed…they have been traveling like they are handicapped because of being deaf, blind and “older”.  Now I have them walking up a flight of 20 steps to get to their room.  They even had to carry their own luggage!! I told them there would be no partying, but I don’t know.
