Day 32

Cloudy with light drizzling rain started our morning off.

The Iron Stairs going up in the Tower
Larry got up and made breakfast for Jeff and Halla.
Larry began his Texas Breakfast of eggs, bacon, sausage, grilled potatoes with onions and toast.  They enjoyed it and again shared stories and good conversation while eating.
Halla had woken about 4 am.
There are several alcoves at the base of the tower

This oil can back pack sits in one of the alcoves
The guest rooms are on the east side of the house, so they really get that bright light coming in early!  She went out and took pictures for about 2 hours, enjoying the views and the sunrise.  It hadn’t begin to drizzle any yet so she was able to have a blessed morning on Seguin.

The weather wasn’t what they had hoped for.  They had wanted to go out on a different trail this morning before leaving, but since that wasn’t going to happen, they spent a few moments in the museum and purchased a few items from our gift shop.  They headed for their boat and “Goodbyes” were said to our new friends, they said they would be back in August.

Larry can’t stand not doing something so he went down to the whistle house to fiddle around and clean up from his “mower fixin” time yesterday.
Lunch was chicken sandwiches and vegetable soup from the ratatouille from last night and it was wonderful!
No visitors today, we didn’t figure there would be.  I still wasn’t feeling the best so we took advantage of the lull and rested.  Going out frequently to the porch just to listen to the waves crash on the rocks below, to hear the sea gulls squawk.  We had lots of little birds chirping and flittering around, maybe because of the weather they felt safer from the predator birds.

I did get a few of my friend Joan’s seeds planted.  I think seeing the Sea Wheat, one of the seeds that she sent, sway in the breeze will be special.  I have to get out to my garden tomorrow….rain or shine and get my vegetables going.

No History today…
Even dreary days are wonderful out here on our own little bit of paradise....Seguin

Day 31

Sun is shining bright and just enough of a sea breeze to be totally comfortable.  The sea looks smooth and sailboats are everywhere.  It’s another beautiful day full of visitors with one wonderful group after the other.  When no visitors were here we did more yard work.

My first visitor of the day...on ceiling of porch

One of our visitor had lived in Popham most of his life and had never been to the island.  This was a real treat for them as well as us, being able to share the history of Seguin and what the Friends of Seguin group does and is doing.  One group was several brothers and their families, with one of the brothers from Keller, Texas.
Just 15 miles from our home in Texas…as we talked we realized that we have mutual friends…small world!  This particular group  were headed to a family home in Monhegan.
We asked several questions about that island and they were very informative. One of the things they said was there is only about a population of 40 at the most that live there year round.

Taking photo's of tower from a different angle
One of the young girls from Texas came out of the tower and started rolling on the grass, she said she didn’t like heights and wanted to kiss the ground…
Bandit ran over and made her feel better.  Sold a few items from the gift shop, this actually being my first sales!  After a little while of just visiting with us, they were all headed out on the South Trail, then back down to the cove where their boat was waiting with two other members of their group who where fishing.  We told them to be careful of our Sea Gull eggs on the path.

We knew we were going to have overnight guest tonight….our first…so I went up several time just making sure everything was just right for them.  There are two bedrooms for them to choose from and one didn’t have a curtain.  I searched the linens and couldn’t find one, so I made on real quick out of a sheet.  I had intended to do this project a week ago, but finally got it finished and up.  About 4:30 our overnight guest arrived, which are members of Friends of Seguin….Jeff and Halla.  They had been sailing and this was the last night of that quest.  They would be headed back to Portland in the morning.  Jeff is from Portland and Halla is from Germany.

I wasn’t feeling well physically, and a little upset that I wasn’t able to be a good host to our first guest.  Halla was a God sent, she made me ginger tea.  I could hear them having a great time in the kitchen preparing their meal.  They shared their dinner of ratatouille vegetable dish with grilled chicken breast as well as some grilled pork.  I didn’t eat, but Larry said it was terrific!  Afterwards Halla made me some vegetable soup and it was delicious especially since I hadn’t eaten all day.
Jeff and Halla
Larry told them that he was going to make breakfast in the morning since they shared their dinner with us.  He asked what they like.  Halla said she wanted a Texas Breakfast.  They later went out to view the sunset and the tower light at night.  Jeff was extremely knowledgeable about the islands and began telling us about what we could see from our vantage point.

History stuff for today!
Beverly Stephens Ramsey who was the Keeper in 2012 was also a baby of Seguin.  Her father Walter Stephens like my father was in the USCG and we both lived in the same side of the duplex here on Seguin.  Our mothers both cooking meals for the family in our kitchen.  Here is a photo collage that she has in the museum as well as my collage.  We get to meet for the first time at the Summer Fest this summer here in Maine.
