Day 91

Went to bed last night with a headache and woke with one…no it's not Larry!

Woke to a beautiful day…yes they are all wonderful days!! The only way it could be better would be that all my family and friends were here with us.  Temperatures are fabulous, views…..360 degrees of some of Gods majestic work….the ocean which is LIFE.  Saw a t-shirt the other day… “Life Begins where the Sea Starts”…I would have bought it, but a man was wearing it!

Flying both the AMERICAN Flag and the Lighthouse Flag today…..it’s my Birthday!!!!  My "1st" Birthday was on Pond Island, which we have to pass by on the way to and from the mainland to Seguin.  So this Birthday is on Seguin Island.  Pretty SPECIAL!
1st Birthday on Pond Island, Maine
At home we always put the Birthday cards over the sink in the kitchen...so that's what I did here on Seguin
Anne Morong, VP of F.O.S.I.L. made me a BLUEBERRY Birthday Cake!!! I’m in Maine with the most amazing man, on Beautiful Seguin Island, and I am having Maine Blueberry Birthday Cake….LIFE IS GOOD!

Thanks Anne for my Wonderful Birthday Cake!
Lots of Birthday cards that I picked up yesterday while on shore and so many wonderful phone calls from my babies, family and friends.

Looking out the front windows of our summer home….I could get used to saying that, “our summer home” here in Maine.  The waves are high and are hitting the rocks below hard, the spray is high and I can hear them, seagulls are taking outside, the lobstermen are out tooting around, we’ve got the radio playing… “Our God is Greater” is playing, sailboats are already out and it isn’t even 8am yet.  Happy Birthday to ME!!! Blessed beyond my imagination!

Soda Fountain cup using it as a vase with something I found here on Seguin
Now for Breakfast….Coffee and Birthday cake sounds good!

Had late visitors last night…they will be back this morning, they stayed in the cove last night.  It is ????? with another group of teenagers out sailing for a week.  He had the other group of kids from a couple of weeks ago.  Later they did arrive and they did bring our water up from the bottom of the hill…I made a batch of chocolate chip cookies for them…not much, just a Thank You!  When they found out it was my birthday, they sang to me!!!!
Sweet bunch of young men and their counselors

My phone is now up and working thanks to my oldest boy bringing his old phone to me….he brings me one and within two weeks I needed it!  YEAH!  Larry’s new phone isn’t working, will have to call AT&T and figure out what’s going on, but for now we do have a connection to the outside world.

USCG Helicopter flew over today...thought it was going to land, but it kept heading out to sea
Visitors have been fast and furious today…not many sales though.  One family had been here several times, but always when no one was here, so they were glad to take the tours.

Guest enjoying lunch
Boys loving on Bandit
Girls having fun around the bell
Quick lunch of leftover pizza, quick because we had more visitors coming… a couple of visitors came up about 5 pm…they were kayakers that had come from Popham Beach….they said it only took them about 30 min…I’m impressed.  They sat out on our “sunset” bench for a while before heading back down.

Around 6:30 two men came up, they are two Germans from Switzerland.  The older man spoke English pretty good.  He had gone to the Sam Houston University in Huntsville, Texas.  The younger man spoke well, but the older man would sometimes repeat in their language…all that to say when the young man reached the top and looked out from the tower he said “WOW”….yep that’s what I say!

Our two guys from Switzerland....they LOVED the island!

Dinner…Birthday Dinner…..shish kabobs: steak, zucchini, yellow squash, cherry tomatoes, onions….then some baked potatoes and a salad from my garden and  Blueberry Birthday Cake for dessert…..only thing missing is ice cream!
Birthday Dinner

Going out and watch the meter showers...they will be spectacular...what a way to end my special day!
No words to explain the beauty of the sunset....

Day 90

Well the storm has passed and the winds have calmed down but the seas still look strong as they crash into the rocks down at cobblestone beach.  I listened to the weather channel and they advised we were still under a small craft advisory till noon.  It is very foggy and I can hardly see the bird house in the yard.
Just a little foggy today...thats the Tram and Birdhouse in our front yard

I went outside around 9am and found two of our benches turned over from the wind last night.  Set them up and realized I could see the water now.  I can still here the fog horn but it does look like it is starting to clear off.

It is now 10:30 am and the fog hour is no longer going off and it looks like it is going to clear off and be a pretty day. I went upstairs and found that the bathroom window had been left open all night during the storm and all the towels and wash cloths were wet from the rain coming in through that open window. So, here I go with all the towels and everything to the cloths line and hung everything out to dry.  Humidity is 99% so I don’t know how long it will take to dry them out good; but at least they are not sitting folded and trying to spoil due to the moisture.

The WW were not able to come out this morning due to the weather.  Ethan brought T’Ann back with our groceries, water, laundry and inventory for the gift shop.

Only saw one sailboat with a couple come into the cove today. However I did see several large vessels out close to Seguin today.

Found a new word that we use in Texas that the Mainers looked at me funny.  We were talking about the color of Lab puppies.  Cyndy said the parents were both black, and then her and Anne both said something about they could still have different colored pups….Thats when I said, “they can and usually do throw a blonde or chocolate”….throw????  They had never heard throw used in that context.   Kind of like saying to a kid after talking to them on the phone….”I’m going to hang-up now”….hang-up what the kid ask?

Our little wagon that has been so helpful getting our supplies from the bottom to the top is in pain…the little front tires are bending and I’m not sure it can make another trip up the hill….guess we need to be thinking about a diet, cause hauling the food up is going to be almost impossible…..MAYBE…we can leave all the nonperishable items down in the Donkey House and only bring up the perishable items….then we can go “shopping” everyday down at the Donkey Engine House!!

This is a USCG Bouy Tendor Vessel...as the name suggest, they tendor the bouy's around Seguin
My find for the summer…..I went to Good Will and found a little coffee cup…"handmade", older looking…it was a dollar.  I didn’t really look at it till I was washing it.  It has Seguin on it….a Chowder Cup Race in 1996….I’m so stoked!

My Seguin Island....so stoked about this find!!
Pizza for lunch at 3:50….so we probably won’t eat any dinner.

Had six people come to see Seguin today, all came on their own boats.

No dinner, just relaxed….big day tomorrow since we haven’t been able to get out of the house much.  Headed up the tower to dust the lens!

Day 89

Started out the day with a Breakfast sandwich: egg, ham and cheese on toast.  One of the best sandwiches I have ever had, it was delicious.  It was even better than The Slam sandwich at Southgate.

Weather is very over cast and it looks like it is going to be a gloomy day here on the island.  Don’t get this kind of weather often so I’m going to take advantage of it…watch a few movies on the computer, read, work my puzzle books and of course take a nap sometime today!

Well it is now 11:00 in the morning and the temperature has dropped to 61 degrees, the winds are still blowing pretty good and it has started to rain.  It does not look like we will have many visitors today.  The seas look rough and I have not seen many boats out on the water this morning.  I even turned the heater on, we had already taken it out of the living room and stored it out of the way..but it found its way back next to our couch.
Bandit is ready to veg today!

I was right, we had no visitors today and as the night approaches the winds have increased to upwards of 20 to 25 mph and the seas look big.  What I can see of them that is as the fog has gotten thick and the fog horn is still blasting.

Going to call it for tonight and head for bed and see what the weather has in store for us tomorrow.

A Little Foggy
Rained pretty much of the afternoon..Not much to do when the weather is bad except listen to the CG radio station “16” to hear if everyone is ok out there on my little pond!!!
Thick clouds out to the south, looking off our side kitchen porch

Day 89

Woke early to a beautiful morning….found my friend, Trayce, out on my lawn rock taking photos.  She’s trying to soak up as much of this place as she can before they leave today.  We sat out on the front porch drinking our coffee and talking about the time we’ve had out here.   Our  guy’s, Larry and Ted, finally arrived and we continued to sit, drink coffee and have good fellowship.  The waves below are intense, high and crashing against the rocks below.  I noticed for the first time that I don’t have a green & white sign on the porch stating this is the museum side…I’ll work on that later.

Breakfast….Fried eggs, grilled potatoes w/ onions, bacon & toast!  What a wonderful way to start the day!

I’ve now got some twinkle lights in the gift shop thanks to Trayce helping put them up in the rafters.  It adds a little something!
Only flower I found like this on the island...planted by a previous keeper down close to the Donkey Engine House

Sales and donations were great yesterday.  I had visitors that would buy a t-shirt for $12…hand me a $20 and say “Keep the change as a donation”, then they would see something else, or another member of the family would want a t-shirt and they would do the same thing.

I felt like dressing up a little today..it’s my birthday week!!

Old Rusty ring off the south side of the cove...it's about 8" diam
I’ve got to go into shore to today with our friends, Trayce and Ted….catching a ride on board the ferry with Ethan.  Taking them to Portland to catch their flight.
They don't want to go....And I would keep them...but life calls out and demands they go!

Had a few more visitors, had some leftover lobster for dinner and settled in and watched a movie before going to bed.
